Realisations and poking with sticks

So a few hours ago I realised that yesterday was a month till my birthday so this is the begging post for fic (or art/manips). There's also an aside of I'm-sick-so-do-me-fic-now-to-cheer-me-up going on.

Now if you write expect me to poke you and trust me I will. Because damnit I want some fic and I'm going to get it. So yeah, you may as well just do it anyway else I will hunt you down and persuade you. Nicely. I promise not to cough on you much.

Anyway. I think a month is enough time to do something. So you know. Get on it.

I'm waddling off now to finish off that vamp fic. Then I'll sharpen my poking stick.

It's just a 100 word drabble, but Happy Birthday. :-)

"So... Mike didn't work out." Bob mentioned coyly, smiling across the table at Ray. After everything went to Hell they'd remained friend, meeting up for drinks if they happened to be in the same town.

Ray cringed and nodded. "Yeah. You could say that. Still content doing the sound gig?"

The interest in the question was clearly more than friendly, but Bob couldn't tell if it was personal, or just about the band. Either way Bob wasn't sure he wanted to travel up that road again.

"It pays the rent."

They both smiled awkwardly, unsure where to go from there.

I realise it was really early, but the picture came into my head so I had to get it out. That drabble is the only thing I've written in over a week so I appreciated the moment of inspiration. I was trying to hint at a past and imply a faint hope of a future, but sometimes it's hard to pack all you want in a 100 word drabble. LOL Maybe I'll manage something longer before your actual birthday. :-)
